Bermuda Red Cross participated in the KEMH’s annual Mass Casualty Management (MCM) training course held 29th May through June 4th 2023.
Two Red Cross Psychosocial First Aid (PSFA) Responders were selected to attend the training session this year. Deanna Raynor and Linnell Williams
represented our organization throughout the week long session and both agreed it was “a great opportunity to see first hand what each agency provides
and the role they play in a Mass Casualty situation.” There is no cost to receive training however, the time commitment is huge and we wish to extend our
appreciation to Westmeath and Bermuda Police Service for allowing Deanna and Linnell to participate. Their efforts benefit all of Bermuda to work well with
other multi-agencies in times of a national disaster.
A special thank you is extended to Dr. Roslyn Bascombe Adams, Deputy Chief of Emergency Department at KEMH and PAHO Mass Casualty Instructor, who gives
her valuable time to ensure our agencies are properly trained to respond to a Mass Casualty in Bermuda. When asked to comment, Dr. Bascombe Adams said, “It was indeed
heartwarming to see so many response agencies coming together, once again, to strengthen both personal and professional emergency response skills as they work with Bermuda
Hospital Board (BHB) and learn Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) recommended management protocols.”
